Hi!  My name is Deb HORNE, School Chaplain for Murgon State School Mon-Tues & Murgon State High School Wed-Fri weekly during school terms.  Please contact the school if you would like to make an appointment.

I completed my Cert 4 in Youth work July 2017, and my Diploma in Youth Work December 2018.  I am now a qualified Youth Worker.

I regularly attend Professional Development training many topics relevant to the needs of both schools.  Some of these include:

  • Grief & Loss
  • Education Queensland (EQ) Mandatory training
  • EQ Student protection training
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid
  • Keeping Children and vulnerable people safe
  • Young people, Alcohol & Other Drugs
  • Creative conversations and many more.

I have worked in many fields paid and voluntary with babies, children, young people and young adults.  These areas include Swim teacher, group leader or co-ordinator, with at-risk teens on a Horse Ranch and Silver-lining girls at Aratheusa.  I enjoy working with young people as they help me stay young in heart and I want to make a difference and leave a legacy of self-worth in young people today.

I am enjoying running 3 breakfast programs (Kickstart) and 3 lunch programs (Momentum) each week.  With the support of the school, The South Burnett Pantry, Murgon CTC, the Murgon Uniting Church, & community donations, these programs are made possible to help remove hunger as an issue for both teaching and learning.  This is offered to both staff & students for FREE every Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

I’m often asked if I am a Teachers Aid, Religious Instruction Teacher, or Pastor.  Although I am a Christian, I am under the same restrictions as any other organization / person that enters a State School. I cannot, and do not preach what I believe to students or staff.  I am here to support staff where needed in the classroom, but first I am here to pick up the hearts of students and staff by listening, and encouraging ways that promote self-worth, positive outlook and bring a smile on their face.  Well-being is most important and it will help those who need it focus better and be more motivated to do what school is there for, to learn or teach.

God Bless you and your family.
